The annual meeting starts with a high-level plenary summit where key stakeholders develop their thoughts on pathways to our common future.

During the following two days you will join the open forums where ideas around the pathways to a sustainable energy future and a nourished world are developed. The Open forums will be parallel sessions including oral presentations and discussions focusing on research results and sustainability aspects related to the annual meeting key questions. On the final day panal debates will summarize the outcome of open forums into a final plenary discussion.

Each parallel open forum session have been assigned a number of supporting papers for discussion and will be chaired by one or more persons from the team of four moderators. The supporting papers are found in the annual meeting Proceedings and each paper will be introduced by a 5-10 min presentation feeding into the open forum discussions. On Wednesday 21st the moderator team will present the alternative pathway findings at the final plenary panel sessions (The Pathwalker).
Open Forum 1
Aim: Provide a state-of-the-art in the following four areas
- 1A Energy — technologies and systems
- 1B Energy — policies for changing course
- 1C Energy — biomass and biorefineries
- 1D Food and water — aspects of water systems
Open Forum 2
Aim: To bring the pathways systems approach into the forum discussions.
- 2A Energy — policies and pathways
- 2B Education — advances in support of the pathways approach
- 2C Food and water — aspects of water systems, policy and pathways
Open Forum 3
Aim: To discuss and define alternative pathways.
- 3A Energy
- 3B Food and water
The alternative pathway findings will be collated in a written form after the final panel and communicated to all delegates of the annual meeting. The results will also be fed into the AGS flagship programs and used to provide a common platform for the intensive research being carried out.
